Aster Perennials
The "star" of the autumn flower garden the perennial aster Latin name "star" also commonly known as "coloured daises" is part of the sunflower family.The Aster family has composite flower-heads, which means that the central disc is composed of several hundred tiny individual flowers, usually yellow or orange.This is surrounded by large, brightly-coloured petals, designed to attract pollinating insects.
The Aster's flower comes in several colours blue, lavender, pink, purple and white, providing an abundance of colourful blooms in late summer when most other flowers are fading.The Aster likes to be in full sunlight and prefers to be planted in well drained soil though it will tolerate loamy, sandy or even clay soils.During mid-july pinch back for a heavier bloom and stronger stems, also divide the plants every couple of years in spring to keep them healthy.
